Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Polity AI, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the service. We may update these terms from time to time; continued use of Polity AI after an update constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.

What Polity AI Is

Polity AI is an informational tool that uses artificial intelligence to generate plain-English summaries and analyses of public legislation, ballot measures, regulations, and other policy documents. Source material is drawn from publicly available government records and authoritative datasets. Summaries and answers are generated, in whole or in part, by AI models. Optional features let you personalize your experience — following specific representatives or policy topics, receiving alerts when they vote, and sharing bills, votes, or excerpts (with your own commentary) through a public link on Polity AI or on to other apps and platforms.

Informational Purpose Only

Content on Polity AI is provided for informational purposes only and does not constitute:

• Legal advice or a legal opinion
• A recommendation on how to vote or engage politically
• A statement of political endorsement or opposition
• A substitute for consulting official government sources or a licensed professional

Always verify important information against the linked primary sources before making decisions based on it.

AI-Generated Content and Its Limitations

Polity AI's summaries and answers are generated using AI models and are subject to the limitations inherent in that technology:

• AI can make mistakes. Summaries may misstate, omit, or misinterpret details of the underlying legislation or policy document. AI-generated content may occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, or presented with unwarranted confidence.
• Legislation changes. Bills and policies are amended, withdrawn, or reinterpreted frequently. A summary accurate at the time of generation may become outdated.
• No independent verification is implied. The presence of a summary on Polity AI is not a guarantee that it has been fact-checked by a human reviewer.

We encourage you to treat AI-generated summaries as a starting point, not a final authority, and to check the linked source documents and official government publications for the most current and authoritative information.

Accuracy and Limitations

We make reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy of summaries, citations, and links to source material. However, given the pace of legislative change and the nature of AI-generated content, errors can and do occur. Polity AI is not liable for decisions made based on information found on this site. We encourage you to check the linked source documents and official government publications before relying on any summary.

Personalization, Alerts, and Sharing

Polity AI offers optional features that let you tailor what you see and share it with others:

• Following and alerts. You may choose to follow specific representatives or policy topics. If you opt in, we'll try to notify you when a followed representative votes on something relevant. We do our best to send these promptly, but we do not guarantee that every relevant vote will trigger an alert, or that alerts will arrive within any particular timeframe.
• Sharing. You may add your own written commentary to a bill, vote, or excerpt. When you do, we store that commentary and publish it at a public link on Polity AI that anyone holding the link can open, and you can pass it on through your device's native share options. What you write stays yours, and it stays your responsibility: you are solely responsible for the content, accuracy, and legality of your commentary. We do not review, verify, or moderate commentary before it is published, and we are not responsible for how a third-party app or platform displays, stores, or further distributes anything you share. We may remove a share at any time, but we are under no obligation to monitor for content that ought to be removed.
• Nonpartisan by design. Polity AI's own summaries, translations, and vote displays remain nonpartisan; personalization surfaces information relevant to you, it does not editorialize. Commentary you add when sharing reflects your own views, not Polity AI's, and sharing a bill or vote is never an endorsement by Polity AI of any position on it.

Your Content

Commentary you write is yours. You keep every right you already have in it, and Polity AI claims no ownership of it. So that we can operate the share feature, you grant Polity AI a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, reproduce, publish, and display that commentary alongside the item you shared and at the public link created for it.

Because links you have already sent to other people are meant to keep working, that license continues for shares you have already created even if you later delete your account. At that point the commentary is no longer attributed to you or connected to your account. If you want a share taken down, email us before you delete your account — afterwards we can no longer tell which shares were yours. See the Privacy Policy for what account deletion does and does not remove.

Acceptable Use

When using Polity AI, you agree not to:

• Scrape, copy, or reproduce content in bulk without permission
• Use the service to generate, spread, or amplify misinformation, or to misrepresent Polity AI's summaries as official government statements
• Use the sharing feature to misrepresent Polity AI's nonpartisan analysis as an endorsement, or to harass, defame, or target individuals, including public officials
• Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or reverse-engineer the service or its infrastructure
• Use automated means to submit a high volume of queries in a way that degrades the service for other users
• Use the service for any unlawful purpose
• Use outputs from Polity AI to train a competing AI model without our prior written consent

Intellectual Property

The Polity AI name, logo, and original written content on this site (excluding AI-generated summaries derived from public source material) are owned by Polity AI. The underlying legislative and governmental data is sourced from public domain records. You may quote or share summaries for personal, educational, or journalistic use, provided you attribute Polity AI and link to the original page.

Third-Party Links

Polity AI links to primary source documents hosted by government agencies and other authoritative organizations. We are not responsible for the content, availability, or accuracy of those external sites.

Disclaimer of Warranties

Polity AI is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any specific summary is complete, current, or free from AI-generated inaccuracies.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Polity AI and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including damages arising from reliance on AI-generated content, decisions made based on summaries, or errors in source citations, arising from your use of the service.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Polity AI and its operators from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your misuse of the service or violation of these terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Polity AI is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. (Specify state/country when finalizing.)

Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to Polity AI for any user who violates these terms, without prior notice. You may close your account at any time from the Profile tab in the app; doing so permanently deletes your account and the personal data attached to it. Shares you have already created are the exception and remain published — see "Your Content" above and the Privacy Policy.
